HANDCRAFTED WAX MELTS & CANDLES

Meet the Owner

Hi, I’m Leah, and welcome to Linky’s Glitter!

I set up Linky’s Glitter in 2018 to help people find paraffin-free, eco-friendly candles, wax melts and home products. Relaxing to my favourite smells simply makes me feel at peace, and nobody should have that ruined by worrying about their health or the environment. Linky’s Glitter is my little way of spreading joy, and doing my bit for people and the planet.

When I’m not in my studio, I’m spending time with my family and our crazy cockapoo George. I also really enjoy interior design and gardening. To me, there’s nothing better than turning a house into a cheerful, inviting and loving home! The story behind Linky’s Glitter- The name came from my childhood. My grandma called me Linky from the day I was born and it means so much to me especially now she has sadly passed. I couldn't think of a more fitting name as I was very close to her.

I’ve always been obsessed with scented candles and wax melts. But I’ve got a confession to make…My wax habit used to be terrible for the environment. I always bought candles and melts from big brands, even though I had no idea what they were made from. To make things worse, whatever was left after I’d burned them went straight in the bin, to be taken off to a landfill somewhere. As I found out more about how these things affected the world around me, I decided that I wanted to make a change. I stopped buying from companies that make their products by the thousands, and started searching for sustainable, environmentally-friendly alternatives on social media.

No matter how hard I looked, all I could find were low-quality products that used unsafe ingredients. It was like everybody wanted to make and sell hundreds of cheap products as quickly as possible. Nobody was treating the thing I was passionate about with any love, and that concerned me. That’s when I got an idea. If I couldn’t find anybody else who was making what I wanted, I’d just have to do it myself. Armed with a budget of only £50, I bought everything I needed to make my own climate-safe pure soy wax melts. The results were… mixed. It turned out that making wax products wasn’t easy. I had quite the knack for creating delicious scents, but at the start I couldn’t quite get the melts to look right. I managed to sell some to friends and family, and to my delight they absolutely loved them! More and more people asked about my melts, and before I knew it I’d turned that £50 into £100!

So what did I do? The same thing again, of course. And I got the same results (only this time the melts looked much better). As my little project grew, I eventually set up an Etsy shop and began to advertise on Instagram. My candles and melts were overwhelmingly well received, and I managed to build a really supportive community. I even made quite a few friends. Finally, in 2018, I rented a private studio, and officially launched my very own business – Linky’s Glitter.

Working for myself to make something I love is honestly a dream come true. I’m also glad that I can give something back by encouraging people to be more mindful about themselves and their eco-friendliness. But above all else, I’m grateful to have found something that really makes me happy, and to have so much encouragement from so many wonderful people!
